2024 RIDE FOR THE LIVING REGULATIONS 

§1 Purpose of the event

  1. Commemorating the Holocaust and Jewish history in Poland while supporting the Jewish community in Krakow. 

  2. Promotion of healthy lifestyle, active leisure, tourism and recreation.

  3. Promotion of Poland as a travel destination.

§4 Time and Place


1. The bike ride will be held on June 28, 2024. The meeting place will be a parking lot in front of the Birkenau gate in Brzezinka, Poland.

§5 Rules of participation 

  1. Every participant is obligated to read and sign this form before the Ride.

  2. Every participant must fill out a registration form prior to the beginning of the event. 

  3. Every participant must  follow the rules of the Ride and adhere to the decisions and instructions of JCC Krakow staff, traffic controllers, and Ride marshals (explanation below).

  4. The Ride marshals, appointed by the organizer, are trained cyclists who know the route and will wear distinctive jerseys. They will be able to assist participants during the Ride. All participants must listen to the instructions given by coordinators and marshals, including instructions to discontinue participation. 

  5. The Ride is led by a pace car, followed by a lead Ride marshal. Participants must stay behind the pace car and lead Ride marshal at all times. Similarly, participants are followed by a Ride marshal and an ambulance. It is forbidden for riders to be behind them at all times.

  6. In the initial and final stages of the Ride (in the cities of Oświęcim and Kraków), participants may be guided by police. Participants will ride in groups of up to 20 people while accompanied by police. These groups will be made by Ride marshals.

  7. The Ride will take place on public roads and while there will be some traffic assistance from local police, participants should expect to share the road with other vehicles. Therefore, participants must exercise extreme caution and know the rules of the road. Participants are also held to the same standards as drivers of other vehicles.

  8. It’s important to ride according to the traffic rules at all times. While riding in a group, the distance between bikes should be 3-5 m.

  9. It is important to ride in a single column. While riding, participants must keep to the right-hand side of the road. You may only pass on the left.

  10. Each Participant must ride at a steady pace in a cautious, calm manner, keeping in mind the speed of others around them and paying attention to their surroundings. 

  11. Due to the recreational nature of the Ride, athletic competition on the Ride route is forbidden.

  12. Participants may not spontaneously dismount from their bikes, race,or overtake other participants during the ride. Every maneuver on the road should be signaled and executed carefully.

  13. Participants may not block the road while stopping. Stops will be organized in parking areas or other areas adjacent to the route.

  14. Helmets and Ride jerseys provided by the Organizer are obligatory. 

  15. Children and teenagers under the age of 15 may take part in the Ride only under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian. 

  16. Participants between the ages of 15 and 18 are required to have written consent from a parent or legal guardian to participate in the Ride.

  17. On the route it is forbidden to consume alcohol and other controlled substances, litter on the route and surrounding areas, damage natural surroundings, ride independently of the group, deviate from the route of the Ride without the Organizer’s consent, and use headphones or other devices that limit hearing. 

  18. The Ride will take place regardless of the weather, except if the area of the ride is declared a state of natural disaster or in the case of any other "force majeure." In case of extreme conditions that are a safety risk for participants, the organizer reserves the right to cancel the event and the registration fee is non-refundable. 

  19. The Organizer will provide a bus for participants who are unable to continue and a technical car for their bikes.

  20. The Organizer will not be liable for any traffic accidents or collisions on the ride course caused by and/ or being the fault of Participants.

  21. The Organizer is responsible for providing bikes, bike maintenance, medical care, and medical insurance for all Ride participants.

  22. The Organizer is responsible for marking the route with Ride For The Living direction signs and for providing all participants with a Google Maps link to a detailed map of the route. 

  23. Technical vehicles approved by the Organizer to assist the Ride are required to have specially designed stickers provided by the Organizer.

  24. The registration form needs to be completed by May 31st, 2024.

§6 Covid-19 and other force majeures waiver:

  1. Participation includes possible exposure to and illness from infectious diseases including COVID-19 (and other force majeures). While particular event rules and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious illness and death does exist.

  2. By participating in the Ride, all participants knowingly and freely assume all risks related to illness and infectious diseases, including COVID-19. 

  3. Participants also knowingly assume the risk of injury, harm, and loss associated with participation in Ride For The Living, including any injury, harm, and loss caused by the negligence, fault, or conduct of any kind on the part of JCC Krakow and/or Ride For The Living.

§7 Ride For The Living 2024 Cancellation Policy

If a participant wishes to cancel their registration for Ride For The Living 2024, they must do so by emailing ridefortheliving@jcckrakow.org

Cancellation on or before the initial refund deadline of April 20, 2024:

If a participant cancels for any reason on or before the cancellation deadline of April 20, 2024, they are entitled to receive a full refund for any monies paid to JCC Krakow up to the time of cancellation.

Cancellation between April 21 - May 15, 2024:

If a participant cancels for any reason between April 21 and May 15, 2024, they are entitled to receive a 75% refund of any monies paid to JCC Krakow up to the time of cancellation, less a $100 administrative fee for irrecoverable costs.

Cancellation between May 16 - 31, 2024:

If a participant cancels for any reason between May 16  and May 31, 2024, they are entitled to receive a 50% refund of any monies paid to JCC Krakow up to the time of cancellation, less a $200 administrative fee for irrecoverable costs.

Cancellation on or after June 1, 2024:

JCC Krakow is unable to guarantee a refund to participants who cancel on or after June 1, 2024, and/or who are unable to travel due to a positive pre-flight Covid test or other force majeures. Cancellations after June 1 will be assessed on a case-by-case basis and any refunds given will be at the sole discretion of JCC Krakow based upon irrecoverable costs.

If JCC Krakow cancels Ride For The Living 2024 after the initial cancellation deadline of April 20, 2024, due to the closure of borders, a national lockdown in the EU, Poland, or the US, and/or the implementation of new travel restrictions that make international travel unsafe or unfeasible, participants will be notified immediately and will receive a full refund of any monies paid up to that point, less an administrative fee of $200.

If JCC Krakow cancels Ride For The Living 2024 after the initial cancellation deadline of April 20, 2024, and international borders are still open and existing travel restrictions remain unchanged, participants will be notified immediately and will receive a full refund of any monies paid up to that point, less the cost of any hotel reservation that has been made by JCC Krakow on the participant’s behalf. Participants who registered without official accommodation through Ride For The Living will receive full refunds.

JCC Krakow reserves the right to cancel Ride For The Living 2024 at any time and for any reason.

Additional Clauses:

  1. Ride For The Living and JCC Krakow, at their sole discretion, reserve the right to waive or adjust these policies at any time for any reason. 

  2. When canceling a Ride For The Living 2024 registration, participants may choose to convert any existing payment into a donation to JCC Krakow. Donations made to JCC Krakow on behalf of Ride For The Living participants are non-refundable.

  1. Participants are strongly encouraged to purchase separate trip or travel insurance to cover any losses resulting from cancellation after the initial deadline, 20th of April 2024. Participants are also strongly encouraged to purchase international medical insurance to cover the cost of any medical bills, hospital visits, and/or extended hotel stays resulting from a positive Covid-19 test or the onset of related symptoms.

  2. In the event of a positive Covid-19 test result (or any other disease) while in Krakow, whether before, during, or after Ride For The Living, the affected participant(s) will be solely responsible for any additional fees, costs, expenses, or charges resulting from medical services, hospital stays, and/or adherence to mandated quarantine or isolation protocols. By registering for Ride For The Living, participants acknowledge that they must abide by any and all regulations implemented by the Polish government and/or by JCC Krakow pertaining to travel, the Covid-19 pandemic, local epidemiological conventions, and all other relevant laws and regulations.

§8 Final provisions:

  1. By participating in the Ride, all participants agree to the publication of their image in any Ride coverage published in the media and in the Organizer’s own promotional materials.

  2. The final interpretation of this regulation form belongs to the Organizer. Should there be any contractual dispute, the Organizer’s decision is final. 

  3. Unfamiliarity with the regulation form does not relieve participants of adherence.
